  12. Dear SCO CMW+ Customer,
  13.  
  14. The enclosed SCO CMW+ Release Supplement 1 provides replacements for
  15. several files on your SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 system.  It improves elements
  16. of the trusted networking subsystem, the X window system graphical user
  17. interface, the backup subsystem, the printing subsystem,  and certain
  18. commands.  For a complete list of the fixes contained in this
  19. Release Supplement, see the Appendix.

  21. SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 Release Supplement 1 will install on SCO CMW+ 3.0.1.
  22.  
  23. SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 Release Supplement 1 is custom(ADM) installable.
  24.  
  25. SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 Release Supplement 1 consists of three floppy volumes.

  27. These Release Notes include complete step-by-step instructions for
  28. installing SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 Release Supplement 1.

  40.             INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  41.             =========================
  42.  
  43. To install SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 Release Supplement 1, take the following steps.
  44. Before beginning installation, locate and have ready the card containing
  45. the serial number/activation key pair that was used to activate the
  46. system you are updating.
  47.  
  48. 1. Log into the system as an administrative user (one possessing the
  49.    "sysadmin" command authorization).  In the shipped configuration,
  50.    the "root" user has this authorization.
  51.  
  52. 2. Bring the system to single-user mode by selecting the "Single User
  53.    Mode" option from the Trusted Path Menu.
  54.  
  55. 3. Enter the command:
  56.     custom
  57.  
  58. 4. The main custom menu will appear.  Press <Return> to select "Install".
  59.  
  60. 5. A window of options opens in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
  61.    Press <Return> again to select "A New Product" from among these options.
  62.  
  63. 6. The next screen highlights the "Entire Product" option.  Press <Return> to
  64.    select this option.
  65.  
  66. 7. Custom prompts you to insert Floppy Volume 1.  Insert the "SCO CMW+ 3.0.1
  67.    Release Supplement 1 volume 1" floppy in the primary floppy drive and
  68.    press <Return>.  You will see the message:

  70.     Installing custom data files...
  71.  
  72.    followed by:
  73.  
  74.     Executing Product Prep Script.
  75.  
  76. 8. The Prep Script will check the version of the operating system.  If
  77.    the operating system is the version for which this release supplement is
  78.    intended, the script will inform you of its intentions and display
  79.    this prompt:

  81.     Press Enter to Continue:
  82.  
  83. 9. If the operating system does not appear to be the version for which this
  84.    release supplemeent is intended, a warning message is displayed and you are
  85.    given the option of continuing or aborting the installation.  You should
  86.    probably not install this release supplement on the system in this case.  
  87.    Simply press <Return> to abort the installation.  If you wish to override the
  88.    warning and force the installation of the release supplement, enter "Y"
  89.    and press <Return>.
  90.  
  91. 10. If you did not install Trusted NFS when originally loading your
  92.     SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 system, a message is displayed warning that if 
  93.     you install TNFS at a later time, you will need to reinstall this
  94.     Release Supplement.  Press <Return> to continue.
  95.  
  96. 11. You are asked if you wish to save backup copies of the files replaced
  97.     by this Release Supplement.  If you do, answer 'y' at the prompt.
  98.     Otherwise, answer 'n'.   Note that installation of this Release
  99.     Supplement is irrevocable if you answer 'n' to this prompt.

  101. 12. Custom will display the message "Creating files list ..." in the top left
  102.     hand corner of the screen.

  104. 13. The following prompt is displayed:

  106.     Insert: SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 Release Supplement 1
  107.                 Floppy Volume 1
  108.  
  109.     Ensure that the correct volume is still in the floppy drive and press
  110.     <Return> to select "Continue".
  111.  
  112. 14. Custom will display the message:

  114.     Extracting files ...

  116.    followed by:

  118.     Insert: SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 Release Supplement 1
  119.                 Floppy Volume 2
  120.  
  121.     Remove volume 1, insert volume 2, and press <Return> to select
  122.     "Continue".

  124. 15. Custom will again display the message:

  133.     Remove volume 2, insert volume 3, and press <Return> to select
  134.     "Continue".

  136. 16. Custom will once again display the message:

  138.     Extracting files ...

  140.      followed by:

  142.     Executing SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 Release Supplement 1 Init Script
  143.  
  144.      The Init Script will display some progress messages.  
  145.  
  146.      The system's serial number will be displayed, and you will be prompted for
  147.      the activation key.  Supply the same activation key that was used during
  148.      the original installation of this system.
  149.  
  150.      The Init Script will then display more progress messages.  Note that the
  151.      "Removing entries from perms lists . . ." phase may take several minutes
  152.      to complete.

  155. 17.  You are then informed that the kernel must be relinked to enable parts of
  156.      this Release Supplement.  To relink the kernel now, answer 'y'.  To defer
  157.      the kernel relink, answer 'n'.
  158.  
  159. 18.  If you answered 'y', the kernel is relinked, and a message is
  160.      displayed reminding you that you need to reboot the system to
  161.      activate the new kernel.  Press <Return> to continue.
  162.    
  163. 19. Custom will display the message "Checking file permissions ..." briefly,
  164.     followed by a screen listing the output of setfiles(ADM).  Press <Escape>
  165.     to get back to the "Products Currently Installed" screen.  To
  166.     exit the custom(ADM) utility, press the q key or use the left arrow key to
  167.     select "Quit" and press <Return>.  Custom asks you to verify that you
  168.     wish to exit the program; press <Return> to select "Yes".

  170. 20. Remove the floppy from the disk drive.  Issue the command:
  171.     
  172.     reboot
  173.  
  174.     to reboot the system with the new kernel.

  179. SCO CMW+ 3.0.1 Release Supplement 1 provides the following fixes.  The
  180. defect number is an internal SecureWare identifier, which you should reference
  181. if you have questions about a specific fix.
